If you’re anything like me, hearing that one of your favorite books is getting adapted for the screen never gets old.
Lately, Hollywood has been announcing adaptations left and right. From dragons and hockey romances to holiday time loops and psychological thrillers, my watchlist just keeps getting longer!
Here are seven newly announced book-to-screen adaptations I’m especially excited to follow.
1. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros
Adaptation: TV Series
Platform: Prime Video
One of BookTok’s biggest phenomenons is officially heading to television.
Prime Video is developing a multi-season adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling Empyrean series, with Meredith Averill (Wednesday, Locke & Key) serving as showrunner and Lisa Joy directing the pilot.
Even better, Rebecca Yarros is involved as an executive producer, alongside Michael B. Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society.
As someone who absolutely loved Fourth Wing, I think a television series is the perfect format. With five books planned in the series, there’s simply too much world-building, character development, and dragon-riding action to squeeze into a two-hour movie.

2. You Deserve to Know by Aggie Blum Thompson
Adaptation: Drama
One of the newest adaptation announcements reunites two familiar faces for Vampire Diaries fans.
Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are set to star in—and produce—the adaptation of You Deserve to Know, based on Aggie Blum Thompson’s 2025 mystery thriller.
The story follows suburban neighbors whose lives become intertwined during a murder investigation, blending domestic drama with psychological suspense.
The project has only recently been announced, so details remain limited, but between the intriguing premise and the reunion of Dobrev and Wesley, I’m definitely keeping an eye on this one.

3. Icebreaker by Hannah Grace
Adaptation: TV Series
Platform: Netflix
Another BookTok favorite is officially making the jump to the screen.
Netflix is adapting Hannah Grace’s wildly popular hockey romance Icebreaker, the first novel in the Maple Hills series.
The story follows competitive figure skater Anastasia Allen, whose Olympic dreams are thrown into chaos when she’s forced to share the rink with hockey captain Nate Hawkins.
What starts as an inconvenient arrangement quickly develops into one of BookTok’s favorite romance stories.
Amanda Lasher (Gossip Girl) has been announced as the show’s showrunner, and considering the popularity of the novel, this one has all the ingredients to become Netflix’s next binge-worthy romance series.
4. The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
Adaptation: Movie
Release Date: March 19, 2027
Fans have waited a long time for this one.
The film rights to The Nightingale were originally purchased back in 2015, but after years of delays—including pandemic-related setbacks—the adaptation is finally moving forward.
Real-life sisters Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning will portray sisters Vianne and Isabelle, navigating the Nazi occupation of France during World War II.
The adaptation is also being produced by Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon’s production company.
Considering how beloved Kristin Hannah’s novel is, expectations will undoubtedly be high—but the cast alone has me incredibly excited.
5. It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey
Adaptation: Movie
Sometimes perfect casting announcements immediately sell you on a movie.
That’s exactly how I felt when I saw that Nina Dobrev will play Piper Bellinger and Tyler Hoechlin has been cast as rugged sea captain Brendan Taggart.
Based on Tessa Bailey’s bestselling romance inspired by Schitt’s Creek, the story follows glamorous socialite Piper after she’s sent to a small Pacific Northwest fishing town to manage her late father’s dive bar.
Predictably, sparks fly when she meets Brendan—a gruff, hardworking fisherman who couldn’t be more different from Piper.
Filming is expected to begin this July, making this another adaptation I’ll definitely be following.
6. In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren
Adaptation: Movie
Platform: Netflix
Release window: Holiday 2026
Christina Lauren’s holiday romance In a Holidaze is officially becoming a Netflix movie—and the casting already has me excited.
Maddie Ziegler will star as Maelyn Jones, while Graham Phillips will play Andrew.
The story follows Mae during what appears to be one of the bleakest Christmases of her life. Her family’s beloved holiday traditions are at risk, her romantic future feels uncertain, and the cozy cabin where her family has celebrated Christmas for years may no longer remain part of their lives.
After Mae desperately wishes to discover what would truly make her happy, she becomes trapped in a time loop and is forced to relive the holiday again and again.
To move forward, she must find a way to save her family’s traditions—and possibly secure her true love under the mistletoe.
The movie is confirmed for a Holiday 2026 release, although Netflix has not yet announced a specific premiere date.
A Christmas romance, a time-loop premise, and a cozy family setting feel like the perfect combination for a Netflix holiday movie. I can already see this becoming part of someone’s annual Christmas watchlist.
7. The Housemaid’s Secret by Freida McFadden
Adaptation: Movie
Release date: December 17, 2027
The world of The Housemaid is officially expanding.
The Housemaid’s Secret, the sequel to Freida McFadden’s bestselling psychological thriller The Housemaid, is moving forward as a movie adaptation following the success of the first film.
Sydney Sweeney will reprise her role as Millie Calloway, and Kirsten Dunst has also joined the cast. Paul Feig will return to direct the sequel.
The story once again follows Millie as she begins working for a wealthy family, only to discover that the seemingly glamorous household is hiding disturbing secrets.
Without giving too much away, the second novel places Millie in another dangerous situation in which appearances are deceiving and trusting the wrong person could have devastating consequences.
The sequel is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027.
I’m especially interested to see how the movie builds on the first adaptation and whether it continues developing The Housemaid into a larger thriller franchise.
Final Thoughts
One thing I love about the current adaptation landscape is how many different genres are finding new audiences on screen.
Whether you’re into romantasy, contemporary romance, historical fiction, or psychological thrillers, there’s truly something for everyone.
Personally, I’m especially excited for The Love Hypothesis, Fourth Wing, and Icebreaker, but I have a feeling this is only the beginning. With BookTok continuing to influence Hollywood, I wouldn’t be surprised if many more bestselling novels receive adaptation announcements in the months ahead.
